The Government of Ireland Africa Development Program (AADP) aims to support sustainable growth in the local food industry across Africa by fostering partnerships between Irish and African agri-food companies. This initiative, jointly managed by the Ireland Ministry for Agriculture, Food and the Marine and the Ministry of State at the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, seeks to create long-term developmental impacts through collaborative projects.
Program Details
The AADP is focused on developing robust partnerships to boost local food industries, build markets for local produce, and support mutual trade between Ireland and Africa. The fund leverages expertise, experience, and investment from the Irish agri-food sector to ensure that the projects have sustainable benefits and developmental impacts.

Eligibility Requirements
To qualify for the Government of Ireland Africa Agri-food Development Programme, applicants must:
- Partnerships: Include one Irish registered agri-food company and one local commercial entity in Africa.
- Commercial Focus: All projects must be commercial in nature.
- Funding Match: AADP funding will not exceed 50% of the project costs.
- Funding Source: Funds contributed by the Irish company must not be from other Irish public funding sources.
- New Project Goals: For repeat applicants, the new project goals/outcomes must be clearly explained.
- Feasibility Study: Must list potential partners.
- Supported Countries: Ethiopia, Kenya, Nigeria, Malawi, Mozambique, Sierra Leone, South Africa, Tanzania, Uganda, and Zambia.
- Additionality: Funding must bring about additional benefits and not replace existing funding.
Selection Criteria
Applications will be evaluated based on:
- Development Impact: Potential for long-term developmental benefits.
- Company Expertise: Technical and financial capabilities.
- Commercial Viability: Feasibility and profitability of the project.
- Risk Analysis: Assessment of project risks.
- Monitoring and Expenditure: Effective monitoring and management of funds.
