Scholarship Details

The Iowa State University Masters Scholarship is an assistantship opportunity supervised by Dr. Adam Janke. The scholarship aims to support a collaborative research project focused on evaluating bird and bird habitat responses to cattle grazing in Conservation Reserve Program Grasslands in Iowa. The student will be part of a project that examines various environmental outcomes related to grazing, including birds, plants, soil health, greenhouse gases, water quality, and cattle production. The project is funded by the Farm Services Agency and will be conducted on private farms in Iowa starting in summer 2025.

Eligibility Requirements

To be eligible for the Iowa State University Masters Scholarship, applicants must:

  • Have a Bachelor’s degree in wildlife ecology or a closely related field.
  • Demonstrate good organizational skills, attention to detail, a strong work ethic, and excellent communication skills.
  • Have experience and skills in bird survey methodologies, working with agricultural producers or on private lands, plant identification skills, and quantitative analysis skills (preferred).
  • Have an undergraduate and graduate GPA of ≥3.0.
  • Possess a valid driver’s license (or ability to obtain one).
  • Applicants from underrepresented or historically excluded groups are encouraged to apply.
